Is The Royal Caribbean Drinks Package Worth It 2023
October 10, 2023What You CANT Bring On Royal Caribbean Cruise 2023
October 22, 2023RoyalUp is Royal Caribbean’s way of upgrading your room – we’re going to talk about how it works, what’s the best way to get the upgrade, and all the must-know information.
RoyalUp
What Is Royal Up Royal Caribbean – well to sum it up, if you booked directly via Royal Caribbean for your cruise. You may get an email asking if you’d like to upgrade your room or you’ll notice it inside of your Royal Account below “Plan my cruise” You’ll see “Upgrade your stateroom”.
The Royal Caribbean Royal Up system works off of bids – depending on your current room you can upgrade from an interior stateroom to a balcony room or even a suite. When clicking on the RoyalUp option you’ll be met with options to upgrade that are available on your cruise, you can click on each room and select an amount to bid. If you the highest bid and they are available then you’ll be selected for the upgrade.
How does the Royal Up program work?
Let’s go over a few important things to note about this – being it works off of bids, when you click on it – it’ll be set on a preset amount. It might say for example $100, in simple terms this is $100 extra per person. If there are two people in that room, you’ll be charged $200. You are only charged for the bid you win – you can only win one bid at a time.
Best Chance Of Winning
Your best chance of upgrading using RoyalUp is to place multiple bids across a few rooms. Don’t worry you can only have one bid – doing this ensures you’ll be upgraded to a different room and increases your chances. This isn’t a guaranteed method however, this is also what Royal Caribbean says. We did this and to our surprise, our lowest bidding room won.
There is no time limit for when the bid(s) can win, so this means you might win a bid a few months out, and some other people might win a bid on the day of the cruise. However keeping an eye out on the bid status page can give you an indication, I’ve recently gone through this on my upcoming cruise. You may notice one of your bid statuses will change to “pending” – (this isn’t official advice or information) Once it has changed to pending it is highly likely you’ve won that selected bid.
Roughly a day after my status changed to pending – I got an email from RoyalUp saying the payment had been declined and that I could make a payment within 24 hours and keep the upgrade, if you don’t reply within 24 hours the status will change to upgrade unavailable. If you’ve prepaid for your bid or have the amount on your card you’ll automatically be upgraded, it’s important to note: Once the bid has been accepted you cannot cancel it or be refunded.
Is it worth it?
Overall this is a great option to upgrade your room, although most of the time you’ll find you will be paying A LOT more than if you had originally chosen that room. It’s possible you could get a deal on a suite or other rooms, but we find it highly unlikely. The only way we can justify it to make it “worth it” would be upgrading to a suite with the deluxe drink package that is included.
This is more opportunity to upgrade your room if you change your mind and want a balcony over an interior room. We think it’s not worth it unless you really want an upgrade from your current room but this will come at a price often $200 – $600 more per person.
